Sponsored Event: City of Merced Day Parade Martin Luther King Jr., Day celebrates the life and works of civil rights activist, Martin Luther King, Jr. The City of Merced Parade has been celebrated in the City Merced for over 8 years and draws hundreds of people. The parade begins on the Merced Amtrak on to Martin Luther King Jr. Way to the Merced County Fairgrounds. Local vendors and restaurants also participate in the carnival-like atmosphere.

Black History Month

Two Week Series

Black History Month is a celebration of the culture and history of African Americans in the United States.  To commemorate this month, the Central Valley Voice produces a Black History Month Editorial Series which includes features on topics such as The Black Family, Blacks in Politics, Blacks in Business, The new Black Power Movement, Blacks and Health, and many more. The publication also offers national sponsorship of sections for branding purposes. This year’s topics will include Blacks and Religion, Blacks in Education, and Blacks in Sports.

Sponsored Event: Cinco de Mayo Festival Cinco de Mayo (Fifth of May) celebrates the Mexican victory over the French in 1862.  The annual Cinco de Mayo festival is held throughout the Central Valley.

Juneteenth Celebration

 Juneteenth (June Nineteenth) is an African-American holiday commemorating the date in 1865 when the last slaves, in Texas, learned they had been freed. This came two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation had become official on January 1 1863.

Mexican Independence Day is one of the biggest holidays in Mexico., people celebrate with food, fireworks. There are many things that can happen during a fiesta, some of these things are colorful parades, music, dancing, eating spicy food, drinking strong drinks, bullfights, rodeos, and fireworks.
